New Author Talk, starring Rachel Vincent

Good News Friday (and a winner!)

And the winner of The Darkest Night ARC is. . .

Dee Light

Congrats! Email me your contact info and I’ll put that in the mail to you.

And my good news: you can find the e-short story, The Darkest Fire, here (at e-harlequin). It says pre-sale so I'm thinking it's downloadable.

Here's a little about it:

He is the guardian of hell, more monster than man. She is the goddess of oppression, more angel than woman. Together they will enter the flames to battle a dangerous horde of demon lords -- and discover a passion unlike any other....

Don’t miss this sizzling prequel to Gena Showalter's breathtaking new paranormal series, The Lords of the Underworld! Though they carry an eternal curse, the Lords of the Underworld are irresistibly seductive -- and unimaginably powerful....

“Showalter at her finest.” --New York Times bestselling author Karen Marie Moning on The Darkest Night

New Lords of the Underworld site -- and TWO Contests!

(I'm adding new stuff to this throughout the week so the contest stays up top) To the left is me and the girls. They are napping and I'm wishing I were napping.

We've got a new Lords of the Underworld site! There's a message board, things about the upcoming books (and we'll be adding more -- I just need to find the time to write them. Like character interviews and such) Some things are under construction. Also, there are two versions to the top frame. One with Maddox (the guy on the cover of The Darkest Night) found on the main page and one a slice of beefcake (found on the message board top frame.) I'm curious to know which you guys like better.

Post your thoughts about the site, anything mentioned above, things you'd like to see (whatever) here and I'll draw a name from the comments section in the next. .. week? (sound good?) Winner will get a signed ARC of The Darkest Night.

http://www.lordsoftheunderworld.net/

Also, as promised there is a link (on the right) for the short, e-story LotU prequel The Darkest Fire on there. hope you'll check it out!

And don't forget to stop by http://www.plotmonkeys.com/ for Julie Leto's amazing contest. All this week, for a full seven days, she’ll be offering a full chapter from her upcoming paranormal romance, PHANTOM PLEASURES (I've read and LOVED it). And, if you post in the comment thread, you will have a chance to win a $20 gift card to Amazon/Borders! That’s seven full chapters for free and seven chances to win! Head on over there!

Beefcake Monday, Jill Monroe, Julie Leto Contest

I'm so glad everyone got my post about Jill's b-day LOL I do happen to adore her, she IS my TOP, so that message might as well have come from me. Bad Gena for not posting, anyway.

In Contest News. . . the amazing Julie Leto is doing a fabulous promotion over at her blog, http://www.plotmonkeys.com/. It's Jill's Birthday

I, Gena Showalter, have to say that Jill Monroe is my best friend.  She's seen me at my worst, offered to come over when I'm sick and always there with a helpful suggestion.  She's not even in my Top Ten - she's the TOP.

Today is her birthday.

Please wish her a happy birthday!

Good News Friday (A puppy!!)

(added later) To the left is Lovey, the newest Showalter. She is the reason I have been so scarce this week. We've been playing, cuddling, bonding. I absolutely adore her, as do Mary Ann and Ginger. She's this dinky little thing, but the girls do not scare her. Maybe I'll make a video of them together.

The original blog post:
I have't been home much this week, so my posts have been short. I'm sorry! But I'm beyond curious about everyone's good news. Let me hear it!!

Updates

Thank you, Jill, for taking care of things for me while I was gone. Everything you said I said, all true! You're in my top 50 friends, no doubt about it. :)

I read Let Sleeping Rogues Lie by Sabrina Jeffries. I LOVED this book. Sabrina has become one of my favorite historical authors. I couldn't put this book down. Loved the hero, loved the heroine, loved the plot. Loved every page. I kept flipping, Love Bunny kept trying to get my attention, but alas, I was totally absorbed. Pick this one up!!

My weekend with my editor (Margo Lipschultz) and Jill Monroe (and all the wonderful people at OKRWA) was amazing. I had the best time. Margo so sweet, so savvy, so fabulous. We stuffed our faces, talked, and laughed. More from me about this soon! This is a wild day for me.

What Gena Would Say

Gena is away from her blog right now, but she wanted me to post some things on her behalf.

First, she wanted me to say that Jill Monroe is her best friend.  Ever.  Top.

She also wanted to say that Jill has never looked thinner.

Also, she wanted to say that she, being Gena, was really really WRONG when she posted...well, that she's been really Really WRONG.

What else does Gena need to say???

Some Shout Outs!

I was going to save this for Good News Friday, but I can't hold it in any longer. Someone (gorgeous and amazing) sent me the most delicious blueberry pie this week to help me recover from my most recent stomach virus. I gobbled every crumb and sobbed for more. And when a family member tried to steal their own piece, I truly tried to stab them with my fork. Gena's Pie. No Share. Now, I'm almost afraid to mention who the (gorgeous and amazing) sender was, because everyone might end up begging this (gorgeous and amazing) woman for her pie -- I did not mean that to sound as dirty as it did. So let me just send a very public THANK YOU, I LOVED THE PIE, WANT MORE PIE, MUST HAVE MORE PIE out to her. You know who you are! (also, I think you're hot!)

And amazing news for my friends, PC and Kristen (Krissy) Cast. Their book Chosen will debut on the New York Times at number 2. I'm over the moon for them! (also, I'm green with envy! But I love them so much I'm mostly happy. And green. But happy. In a green sort of way. No, seriously, I am absolutely thrilled for these girls. They've worked so hard and they deserve it!!) Major congrats, PC and Krissy!!! You two are a truly gifted writers.

Also, I'd like to thank Jill Monroe for so enjoying my crack. You know you loved it!

Updates

I'm still plugging away at Twice As Hot edits (my own edits, not my editors), and now I'm up to chapter 19. Only 11 more to go! I hope to read 2 of them (19 and 20) today.

My book rec of the day is Match Play by Merline Lovelace. I highly HIGHLY enjoyed this one!! Lots of action, strong fabulous characters, sexy!!

Olympic athlete turned secret agent Dayna Duncan always plays to win. Her assignment to guard an international sports sensation would be no different. Then the one man who could throw Dayna off her game appears. Fighter pilot Luke Harper never did play fair….

Years ago, knowing that he could jeopardize her shot at the gold, Luke broke things off with Dayna. Now he's back...for keeps. Even as Dayna tries to resist the man she believes chose his career over her, reigniting passion adds fuel to an explosive conspiracy that could end this match, once and for all.

Gena As Beefcake

I told Gena not to worry about this week's beefcake...because if you want to see a scantily clad person, just stop by later this week to check out the latest Author Talk video.  Gena has a starring role, and let's say she really got behind her performance!

Some of you may recall that I was sick a little while ago, and Gena held a contest where people were not to wish me well...

Anyway Gena was helping me tape Author Talk since I was still a little under the weather.  I noticed something while filming. Something to do with Gena's pants and well, she was wearing low rise jeans. Are you getting the full mental picture here?

I haven't been able to look at the footage yet, but after Gena's little contest, I can honestly tell you I didn't feel one bit bad that I waited to tell her about her little problem after I'd already packed up the camera, instead of stopping the filming so she could fix it.

Or it could be that I was hyped up on cold tablets and my reactions were a bit delayed. Whatever the reason, remember to stop by later in the week to see if the camera gods were smiling.

Good News Friday

Galleys arrived for The Darkest Pleasure yesterday so I'm hard at work on those. This is my last chance to find typos (found a big goof already -- which is totally my fault and I could only shake my head in wonder at myself :), make changes and so on. Twice As Hot is on hold until I get these done.

So tell me your good news!

Win a copy of Jaci Burton's Riding Wild

Jaci Burton writes white-hot romances that are irresistible! And Riding Wild is her best yet. It’s burning hot, man. Burning hot!! With a to-die for sexy hero you won’t be able to resist. There’s thrilling action (in every sense) and edge of your seat, can’t flip the pages fast enough. . .everything. I loved it!!

Here’s a little about it:

He's a Harley-riding ex-thief working undercover for the government. She's a gun-toting ex-socialite hired to protect a valuable museum exhibit. But in her attempt to stop a heist, she never anticipated having her breath and her heart stolen...

Mac Canfield was the last man Lily West expected to see again, never mind aim her gun at. But here he was, the bad boy who'd broken her heart years ago-still a thief, this time high-jacking a priceless artifact--and it was all she could do to push aside the memories of how it felt to have his perfectly chiseled body next to hers.

Mac was no less shocked to see the beautiful girl-next-door all grown up, threatening to shoot him on the spot. Little did she know she was blowing his cover-and now he had to figure out how to get her out of harm's way without succumbing to his crazy desire to take her on a hot trip down memory lane.

Unfortunately, Lily has no intention of going anywhere with Mac. Which means he has to resort to kidnapping. Unless, of course, she agrees to let him take her for the kind of ride destined to drive them both unbelievably wild...

And here’s an excerpt:

No telephone. How could he live out in this remote area and not have a telephone in his kitchen or bedroom? She eased the door to his room closed and tiptoed upstairs. There were two bedrooms and one bath up here, but she already knew what she’d find. Or, rather, not find. The first bedroom was empty, the bathroom was useless and Mac was in the third room.

“No, there are no telephones here,” Mac said, obviously reading the frustration on her face.

“How can he live out here and not have a phone?”

Mac grinned. “He has a cell. And he keeps it on him.”

Dammit. The fates were clearly conspiring against her. Well, them and the men.

“I’m going to take a shower,” Mac said. “Care to join me?”

Lily laughed. “As tempting as that sounds, I don’t think so. Not with Tom downstairs cooking a meal for us.”

“He’ll keep it warm.” He took a step forward.

Lily took a step back. “You go first. I’ll shower when you’re finished. Does Tom have a washer and dryer?”

Mac nodded.

“Good. I need to wash some of our clothes.”

“Now you’re thinking practical things. I like it when you think about sex, instead.”

“You just prefer me distracted so I won’t try to find a phone or ask you any questions.”“Well, yeah.” He moved forward again, this time pinning her between his body and the wall, leaving her no escape.

A sharp awareness and a swelling heat rushed through her. Just like that, thoughts of laundry and telephones and Tom cooking downstairs were lost. Mac’s eyes went dark, his focus only on her. He skimmed his hand across her shoulder, down her arm, moving to her waist.

“Mac. I’m not stupid, you know.” Just being near him was a distraction, and she couldn’t deny it.

“Of course you’re not stupid. That’s why I have to keep distracting you with my dick.”
