Good News Thursday and Meljean Brook!

(I had meant to tell you guys it was coming a day early, but Friday is so ingrained for good news LOL)

Post your good news here. Mine: I have a book review!!

First, I am a huge fan of Meljean Brook. (fan-girl squeal) She is a true master of her craft. Her books enrapture me to the point that the rest of the world fades away – and if the rest of the world dares try and interrupt me while I’m reading, there’s hell to pay. She's one of my addictions. Seriously, her books are that good.

Demon Night is her best yet. And that’s saying something. I would stab Jill Monroe in the back for a signed copy of Demon Moon. But back to Demon Night (and yes, I would stab Jill Monroe in the back for a signed copy of this one, too.) I LOVED this book. Loved, loved, loved. It’s exciting and sexy and utterly enthralling. Her world building is amazing. You are there, with the characters, feeling what they feel, seeing what they see. And speaking of (typing of) her characters. . . some of the best!! I adored the heroine, who was wonderfully flawed and complex and a great friend to have. I wanted to jump the hero, Ethan, who is as wonderfully flawed and complex as the heroine and sexy as hell. I'm drooling just typing this about him. They were magic together. Absolute magic. If you enjoy stories where you believe the couple falls in love, where you can see it happening and experience it with them, this is the one for you!

Here’s a description (taken from Amazon) about this amazing book:
Beautiful Charlie Newcomb is being hunted by vampires, for she is the link to a medical miracle that could be invaluable to the night stalkers. Her only protection is her guardian, Ethan. But will he be enough to save her when darkness falls?

I'm not kidding, this couple sizzles together! I was riveted by every page. If you haven’t given this amazing author a chance, do it!! And what’s awesome is that you can catch up on what’s happened in previous books here:

SOLAR HEAT by Susan Kearney
(TOR Books, February 5, 2008)

WATCH the book video here: http://www.susankearney.com

Is she an indispensable ally. . . or his worst enemy?

When Intersolar Mining entrepreneur Derrek Archer rescues Azsla from her emergency sleeping pod, he's confounded by his desire for her. An inexplicable desire. An irresistible desire that causes Derrek to wonder if he's been drugged or hypnotized.

Is she better off with him . . . or without him?

Azsla's attracted to the sexy asteroid miner, but she fears getting close to Derrek might compromise her mission and reveal her secret. A secret that she's an enemy spy and her facade hides a complex and powerful woman—one capable of enslaving Derrek and destroying everything he holds dear.

Will Azsla's devastating secret destroy them . . . or save them?

When a cataclysm of deadly proportions threatens Derrek's world, they must overcome their distrust, suspicion and opposing loyalties. But while uniting forces might save a planet, working together might tear them apart or bring them together. Forever.

Press Release!

HARLEQUIN ANNOUNCES CREATION OF
PARANORMAL ROMANCE BLOG

Harlequin’s Paranormal Romance Blog is the first site dedicated to paranormal romance novels and authors. Vampire lovers welcome.

Toronto, Canada (January 29, 2008) — Harlequin Enterprises Limited (http://www.eharlequin.com/), the global leader in series romance and one of the world's leading publishers of women’s fiction, today announced the creation of Harlequin’s Paranormal Romance Blog (http://www.paranormalromanceblog.com/), a blog dedicated solely to paranormal romance novels, one of the fastest growing romance fiction categories in the world.

Created and hosted by the editors, authors and other personnel behind Harlequin’s various imprints, ParanormalRomanceBlog.com is the first such site dedicated solely to the genre. “There are blogs dedicated to paranormal fiction and others committed to romance novels but there was no forum devoted strictly to paranormal romance. Now there’s somewhere a fan can go to discuss the love a woman might have for a vampire or alien or werewolf,” says Jenny Bullough, Manager of Digital Content and Interactivity. “We created the blog because we are all avid fans of paranormal romance novels—it just so happens that we work or write for a publisher. It may be called Harlequin’s Paranormal Romance Blog but we encourage posts, comments and discussion about paranormal romances by any author or publisher.”

Editors, authors and readers exchange ideas and opinions and engage in friendly, passionate discussions about the paranormal romance genre. Editors and authors explain the allure of the supernatural and the forbidden—such as the eternal magnetism of vampires. Readers are encouraged to weigh in to the discussions with their likes and dislikes about paranormal romance books and—as some of the individuals writing and shaping the stories are hosting the blog—perhaps even help shape the plots and themes of future paranormal romance novels.

Paranormal romance is one of the fastest growing genres in fiction. In October 2006 Harlequin Enterprises Ltd. Launched Silhouette Nocturne, a new romance series dedicated to paranormal romance. To date Nocturne has enjoyed tremendous success, with two Nocturne titles appearing on the NYT Bestseller list, in addition to numerous bestselling paranormal romance novels by prominent authors such as Brenda Joyce, Gena Showalter, and Susan Krinard from their HQN and MIRA imprints.

About HARLEQUIN ENTERPRISES LIMITEDHarlequin Enterprises Limited is the global leader in series romance and one of the world’s leading publishers of women’s fiction, with titles issued worldwide in 26 languages and sold in 109 international markets. Winners!!!

I can't tell you how difficult this was, picking a winner, hence the long wait. But here you go, wait no more:

First place goes to:

Krystle!!

Here's her winning entry: After Kresley, we are now able to live on words alone.

Krystle, you won an ARC of The Darkest Night, as well as a signed copy of Savor Me Slowly and Catch A Mate. Just go to the main page of my website, click on contacts and send me an email with your information.

We couldn't pick just one, though. So here are three other entries that really grabbed our attention. These ladies will win a signed book from me (probably either Savor Me Slowly or Catch A Mate, whichever I have handy) Same goes for you guys and the contact emails.

Audrey, for her entry:

An aspiring author found a bottle with a djinn inside and was given three wishes. First, she asked for a new laptop, granted. Second, she asked for inspiration for her novel, granted. Third, she asked to write as good as Kresley Cole. The djinn denied the wish stating what the hell, I'm not God.

Wendy, for her entry:

Krelsey Cole iz so gansta, she weers a shirt with her ownz face on it. (a la cats)

MarnieColette for her entry:

Darth Vader to Luke - "Luke - I... wish you were Kresley Cole but alas I must claim to be your father."
Congrats ladies!!

A signing, and when will Gena announce the winner damn it?

This past weekend I attended a book signing with the amazing Merline Lovelace and the incomparable Jill Monroe. I picked up copies of their newest books: Risky Business by Merline and Primal Instincts by Jill. Both books are exciting and sexy and must reads! Seriously, I’m awed by their talent. They never cease to draw me in and hold me captive.
As for the winner of the Kresley Cole contest. . . I plan to post the name(s) tomorrow. Why not today? you ask. Because I'm still hedging a little LOL. Let me just say how difficult this has been. I even had to enlish the help of trusted friends. But I've now got it narrowed down to four so they'll be a 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place, with 2 - 4 winning a signed copy of Catch A Mate. Until tomorrow. . .

Contest, Mary Ann, and 7 things

First, don’t forget to go here and enter my contest for a chance to win an ARC of The Darkest Night, a signed copy of Savor Me Slowly and a signed copy of Catch A Mate.

Here is Mary Ann at puppy graduation. Isn't she adorable? Jill Monroe would be so proud of that leash. It's OU. I'll try and post a picture of Ginger soon.

The wonderful Lousia tagged me. Here are 7 random facts about me.

1. I don’t mind when people call me by the wrong name. Besides, I do it to sooo many people, it’s not like I can complain. But yeah, I’m called Gyna, Jenna, George, Ms. Snowater, and I find it hilarious. I rarely correct people.

2. I have girl crushes. For those of you who aren’t familiar with a girl crush, it’s when one girl (we’ll call her GS) so admires another girl (we’ll call her JM and/or KC and/or LW) that she – GS -- would totally try and date her – KC/JM/LW -- if she – GS -- were a man.

3. I can – and love – eating chili for breakfast.

4. I do not drink soda of any kind. I hate soda.

5. I wear sweat pants all the time. I wear them so much in fact that the day I put on an old t-shirt and jeans, my family asked me why I was so dressed up – and they weren’t kidding.

6. I am not attracted to cowboys. There. I admitted it. I don’t know why! So many women find the idea of a cowboy utterly sexy. Me? Where’s the guy who ditched class to get a tattoo?

7. I once ate more than Love Bunny and his brother – combined. I ate what was on my plate, what they couldn’t eat, and everything left over on the table. Then ordered some more. I’m not kidding.

What kind of bad girl would I be if I played right and tagged others?

Now on to the tour. . .

KEEPERS OF THE FLAME by Robin D. Owens
Luna

Twin sisters Bri and Elizabeth Drystan each have a special gift for healing, but they've taken very different career paths. While Elizabeth has pursued a medical degree, Bri has taken a more unorthodox and holistic path. Both of their gifts are sorely needed in the world of Lladrana, as the Dark has launched a deadly new plague. Abruptly summoned to this alien world by desperate sorcerers, Bri and Elizabeth discover they are the fourth such summoning of Earth-born women, or Exotiques. The situation in Lladrana is dire, and Bri and Elizabeth are immediately thrown into the fray. To save the lives of many, one twin may place her own life in dire risk.

ABOUT ROBIN D. OWENS

Robin D. Owens has been seriously writing longer than she cares to recall, but is very happy with how her writing career is proceeding. She was named the Writer of the Year by Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers in 2004, and 2003 Writer of the Year by the Denver Area Science Fiction Association. Robin has been the librarian, contest co-chair, and President of Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers. She has given seminars at Pikes Peak Writers Conference, the Colorado Gold Writers Conference, and Romance Writers of America as well as other groups.

REVIEWS

As Owens' multifaceted saga, The Summoning, continues, the sorcerers get an unexpected bonus: two for the price of one in the form of twins...Events continue to darken in this intricate fantasy world, the stakes keep rising, and losses become inevitable. Strong characterization combined with deadly danger make this story vibrate with emotional resonance. Stay tuned as events accelerate toward the final battle. —Jill M. Smith, Romantic Times

This is one of the most engaging worlds ever to grace the universe of epic fantasy. Though the basic framework of the prior three novels is maintained, Keepers of the Flame does not follow any set "formula," but is filled with surprises as the sisters adapt and struggle in the world to which they have been summoned. Thus, what is loved about the other books is still there, but it is also a fresh, new spin on the overall story. -- Amanda Killgore, Huntress Reviews

I was utterly fascinated by this latest Exotique story. The Lladranans are coming closer and closer to finding a solution for finally facing the Dark in a final battle. They can only hope they can set all the pieces of the puzzle into place and finally triumph to save Lladrana once and for all. Robin D. Owens has pulled out all stops with this one in yet another intriguing peek into her Lladranan world. -- Kathy Boswell, The Best Reviews

A winner -- and a new contest (with a bigger prize)!

And the winners of the signed copy of Catch A Mate is. . .

tami brothers

and

lucile

Congrats! Go to the main page of my website, click contact info, and you will see my email. Shoot me an email with your information and I will put the book in the mail.

And speaking of Catch A Mate, the bird cage cover was for the trade sized book (the bigger one) and the new hot man cover is for the mass market (smaller one) I don't want to confuse anyone or have anyone buying a copy of the smaller one when they've got the bigger one and thinking it's a brand new book.

The new contest:

As some of you may know, I think Kresley Cole and her books are two of the greatest things in the entire world. Well, yesterday I was reminded of the Chuck Norris list. You know: There is no theory of evolution, just a list of creatures Chuck Norris has allowed to live. And, Chuck Norris eats transformer toys in vehicle mode and poos them out transformed into a robot.

Well, I think we need a Kresley Cole list. My goal was to think of them on my own, but me no so smart as me think. So, to be entered for a chance to win a signed copy of Catch A Mate, Savor Me Slowly, and an ARC of The Darkest Night, I want you to post/create a sentence telling how Kresley Cole is so fabulous. Make me laugh!

Here are two examples of what I'm looking for (these are from the CN list, with only the name changed):

Kresley Cole once won a game of Connect Four in three moves.

On the 7th day, God rested.... Kresley Cole took over

This contest will run for the rest of the week. Maybe next week.

Q and A day

Q: What are you working on?

A: I am currently going over Jewel of Atlantis and making small changes (catching things I didn't catch the first go round and using skills I've picked up since writing it LOL) for it's re-release.

Q: What is a re-release?

A: A rerelease is when the book is put back on the store shelves as a new release. Sometimes at a reduced rate (which both Heart of the Dragon and Jewel of Atlantis will be), sometimes with a new cover (Heart of the Dragon and Jewel of Atlantis will indeed have new covers) and sometimes with slight changes in the text (yep, HotD and JoA will).

I think those are the only questions I had on board that I hadn't answered. Any other questions, me pretties?

HEAT OF THE NIGHT by Sylvia Day
ISBN: 978-0061231032
HarperCollins Avon
January 8, 2008

Bad boys are her weakness and no one is as wicked as Connor Bruce…

He is the realization of every woman’s erotic fantasies. Existing in the Twilight between sleep and consciousness, Connor brings them decadent pleasures, fueled by their sexual energy. But violence and strife now tear apart both worlds, and Connor must embark on a perilous quest into the mortal realm … and into the arms of one intoxicating enchantress.

Stacey Daniels has always been attracted to the wrong type of men – and the muscular, Viking-like champion on her front doorstep is no exception. She can hardly believe the wounded warrior is from another world, a world where erotic dreams are needed to survive, a world of terrible danger that has followed him to her home. Connor finds solace in her passion, but only time will tell if he can defeat the dark foe who hunts them … and if Stacey can surrender to the promise he offers with every electrifying touch.

REVIEWS
“I highly recommend this book especially to readers who love fantasy romance.”– Paranormal Romance Writers

“Sylvia Day’s Guardians are deliciously spicy, especially the intensely sexual Connor. Love the paranormal world! Love the characters! Love the sizzling romance! Love Heat of the Night! Love Sylvia Day!”– Annmarie, Joyfully Reviewed

“Heat Of The Night is not only a love story, it’s also an extremely adventurous tale of good versus evil. I couldn’t stop reading, waiting to see what would happen. In this story, there were characters from the first book as well as new characters, both evil and good. The adventure and love story combine, woven together by a wonderful plot. I’m eagerly awaiting the next book in Ms. Day’s marvelous series.”– Marcy Arbitman, The Romance Studio

“Day’s second installment in her Dream Guardian series starts off with a bang! Her hot and steamy sex scenes will leave readers breathless and aching for more. The hero and heroine are believable and well written, and the hero is rugged and definitely dreamy. With characters from the first book added in, as well as a mixture of new faces, plus dashes of paranormal elements, Day has a winning recipe.”–Janean Sparks, RT BOOKreviews

Beefcake Monday, Updates, and 10 Ways to Tell a Book is Written by Me

Did I post this one yet? I'm not at the top of my game this morning. No sleep. Again. It wasn't the puppy this time, but me. Sigh. I hate insomnia.

Anyway, this week I think I'll be reading over Jewel of Atlantis for it's re-release. I get to make tweaks. (Same with Heart of the Dragon, but I've already gone over it once. Will again soon.)

Next week, I've got to dive into Twice As Hot, the sequel to Playing With Fire. I'm only five chapters in when I should be 20 -- or even done. Bad Gena!

What are you guys working on?

I was tagged to list 10 ways to tell a book is written by me. Here they are:

1. Jill Monroe is in the dedication
2. A warrior is mentioned/nearby/the hero/eye candy. Yeah, I love me some warriors.
3. At least one job is made up. OBI, PSI, OASS, Para-Audiologist, Mythoarcheologist and so on. Towns, too. Actually, nothing is safe.
4. Heroine around the age of 24 (and in a lot of my first books, a virgin. Okay, some of the later ones too.)
5. Hero can’t get hard for any woman but the heroine. Mean? No, I’m just writing the way life should be. That is nonnegotiable for my men.
6. Muscles are always involved.
7. Someone at some point gets killed.
8. Dry humor. Sarcastic comments. One liners.
9. At least two love scenes with several make out scenes thrown into the mix.
10. My name is on the cover. (I just couldn't think of anything else LOL)

I've been plugging away at line edits on The Darkest Pleasure. I'm seriously panting for the Lords of the Underworld to release. I can't wait to hold them in my hot little hands!

Today, I think I'm gonna see National Treasure 2. I loved the first one, so I'm eager to see this one. Anyone seen it? What'd you think?

I've been reading, too. Three books by Elaine Fox. I loved them! They had dogs in them, and that's what drew me to pick them up, but then then the writing held me captive. Great books! Also read Because Your Vampire Said So by Michele Bardsley. What a fun, fabulous book! I love the world she's built and the characters who live there.

I have been SO impressed with the books I've read lately.

I can't recall if I told you guys how wonderful Lady in the Vamp by Michelle Rowen is. What a delight! Fun, witty, sexy. It's her best book yet!! I read her books with a smile on my face and I always sigh dreamily when I'm done. I wanted to date the hero.

Marked by Moonlight by Sharie Kohler. Dark, sexy, reveting. Very hot and the start to an exciting new series you won't want to miss. I wanted to be the heroine and I wanted to date the hero.

Mine to Possess by Nalini Singh. Fabulous!!! I swear she gets better with every book, something you wouldn't think possible since her books are SO damn good! But she does, and this is not to be missed. I wanted to date the hero.

Demon Night by Meljean Brook. Another author who gets better with every book and something that shouldn't be possible. She is truly one of the best voices out there. Sexy, exciting, in a dark and sultry world with characters who convince me they have fallen in and they can last the ages. If you haven't read her, you must. You are missing out! I wanted to date the hero.

Up next I'm reading The Accidental Werewolf by Dakota Cassidy, Atlantis Awakening by Alyssa Day, and A Rush of Wings by Adrian Phoenix. How about you?
